The film follows a BBC war reporter and Harvard psychiatrist Dr. John Mack, whose careers were threatened by the investigation of the incident, as well as a former student who journeys back to the rural Ariel School.。年届半百的征三拜访双胞弟征彦的画坊，两人为一本画册，遍访记忆中梦幻的村庄，将时光倒叙至童年生活──1948年，自小有画画天份的□生兄弟，因母亲兼老师的教学态度，使村内同学对他俩轻蔑及冷嘲热讽，于是二人独自游玩，与大自然为伴，以抒发心中情绪；母亲的教育，把孩子对人、事、物的好奇，变成自然的成长……。
